Swimming Lessons
Skipper's Program (without parent)

  • PIKE-AGES 3-5 - Shallow water. Little or no swimming ability first swimming class
  • EELS-AGES 3-5 - Shallow water. Ability to swim 15 ft. - unassisted, front with bubbles and and back scull
  • STARFISH-AGES 3-5 - Child displays excellent swimming skill.  Swimmer is taught additional stroke skills, endurance, and treading water.  To progress, child must be either 6 years old or in the first grade.

Progressive Swim Program

A national YMCA swimming program designed to offer a progression of swimming skills. Specific skills must be achieved before moving to the next level. Due to the difficulty of certain skills, children will not always move on after one session of instruction. Classes are for ages 6 and over.

  • POLLIWOG I-AGES 6 AND UP Shallow water. First Swimming Class.
  • GUPPY-AGES 6 AND UP Shallow/deep water. Ability to swim 25 yds., unassisted, front and back. Perfecting rotary breathing, introducing back crawl.
  • MINNOW-AGES 6 AND UP Deep water, for intermediates. Ability to swim 25yds., front and back crawl. Introduce elementary back stroke.
  • FISH-AGES 6 AND UP Deep water, more advanced. Ability to swim 50 yds., front crawl, back stroke, 25 yds. elementary back stroke. Introducing breast stroke and dolphin kick.
  • SHARK-AGES 6 AND UP Deep water. Advanced . Able to swim 400 yards. Individual medley.

Adults

SWIM LESSONS:

This program is structured for both beginning and advanced swimmers. The group will be separated into beginning and advanced levels. Each session is open to students of all abilities. Each lesson lasts 45 minutes.

WATER AEROBICS:

This is a high intensity workout designed to build cardiovascular endurance as well as build muscle strength and tone. Working out in the water helps limit the stress put on the bones and joints that can occur while doing land aerobics. Each class will be 50 minutes in length.

ARTHRONS:

Arthritis Foundation Aquatic Program This class is designed for men and women who suffer from the aches and pains of arthritis, immobility, and flexibility problems. This class is co-sponsored by the American Arthritis Foundation and the YMCA and is taught by a certified instructor.
